Digital Technologies In the Classroom

When discussing technology in the classroom, I believe there are at least five devices that should be used. They are digital cameras, electronic whiteboards, LCD digital projectors, USB Portable storage devices, and E-Books. I will explain my reasoning behind each of these choices.
Digital Cameras~I use my digital camera every day of my life. I plan to utilize this technology in my classroom. Digital cameras have multiple uses. First of, if a student is performing a science project, they may want to have pictures of the project itself  for the presentation. If a digital camera is available, the student would be able to simply snap a photo, have it sent to a parent's email, and the parents can then have it printed off. It is a simpler process than old photographs that would take days to get back.
Electronic Whiteboards~When I was in elementary school, these 'smart boards' were just starting to make appearances in the world. I hope to be able to utilize this technology in my future classroom. I would utilize it for every subject. They have the ability to do almost everything a computer can do, and still have the versatility of a dry erase board. I would especially use this technology for when a student is absent. They would be able to visually see all the notes I have provided the class, and not have to rely on their peers. All the notes would be right there, able to be printed and or emailed right away.
LCD Digital Projectors~ This is a type of technology I would use if I did not have an electronic whiteboard at my disposal. It is essentially the same thing, but not as interactive. With the above, I can write out information as fast as I want. With a projector, the information has to be previously wrote out and ready to present. I would essentially use it the same way I would use an electronic whiteboard.
USB Portable Storage Devices~ Jump drives are almost essential to a classroom. They are going to be a vital part of my classroom. If my students are writing a report or doing a PowerPoint project, they will want to be able to have a safe place to store the information. That is where the USB comes into place. The technology allows vast amounts of information to be shared between computers. I love these things!
E-Books~I hope to be able to incorporate this technology into my classroom. It gives students the opportunity to take notes in their books, denote key text, and just interact on a new level with the text of the book. Since E-books require a devices to be used on, It might be hard and expensive to incorporate this technology into a classroom.
Technology always has and always will play a big part of the education system. I hope to be able to incorporate these five types of education technology into my classroom. :)

  1. I never thought of using e-books. That would be a great idea to save paper and be more earth friendly. Although it may be expensive it may be worth it in the end. I guess another thing you need to think about would be how the children would use e-books for homework and to study for test.

  2. I would agree about the E-books. I have never used one before, and didn't include it in my 5 digital tools essential in my classroom, but I am starting to wonder if I should of included e-books, but it would be hard to take any of my 5 out. I like that a student can put in their own notes in their e-books. It would also be nice not to have to lug around a book, and the possibility of destructing it, or forgetting it for class. The e-book would always be readily availible. good post
